The new album, *Moonstruck*, pays homage to Ulysses Nardin’s greatest trilogy.
A tribute from Oechslin and Schnyder.
Less than a month after launching its smallest and most “minimalist” Freak watch to date, Ulysse Nardin has released another complicated timepiece—the Blast Moonstruck. This watch boasts exquisite craftsmanship and several practical complications, its main highlight being a geocentric star display, with the Northern Hemisphere’s symbol engraved between patterns surrounding the sun and moon.

replica Ulysse Nardin BLAST MOONSTRUCK
The brand’s natural affinity for such complications dates back to 1983, when Rolf Schnyder and Ludwig Oechslin, the subject of this article, jointly led the brand’s revival. Besides holding degrees in theoretical physics and philosophy, Oechslin is also a highly skilled watchmaker, perhaps comparable to the description of Eric Clapton on the British motoring show *Top Gear*—”the local guitarist.” In addition to restoring the Farnese clock in the Vatican and creating a replica of the Antikythera clock, he also won the third Prix Gaïa Prize. For reference, if the Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève (GPHG) is the Oscars of watchmaking, then the Gaïa Prize is the Nobel Prize.
July 27, 2026 at 7:42 am #3133Regarding his work for Ulysse Nardin, he is best known for his role in developing the original Freak, but his “Time Trilogy,” particularly the Galilean Astronomical Disc, remains his most impressive (and severely underrated) creation.
This timepiece, named “Blast Moonstruck,” originally launched in 2022, is the third generation of a more modern tellurium display watch in the Ulysse Nardin collection, continuing the design concepts of the 2009 “Moonstruck” and the 1992 “Tellurium Johannes Kepler” (the final piece in the “Time Trilogy”). Fortunately, you can supplement today’s reading with this excellent in-depth article by Mr. Foster—but allow me to first outline the highlights of this new rose gold watch.
The watch features a sharply angled, 45mm diameter case, with a rose gold case set with alternating polished and brushed facets, and a DLC-coated titanium inner case. The bezel is also made of black titanium, covered by a high-topped sapphire crystal glass, engraved with the polar projections of the Earth’s Northern Hemisphere, surrounded by a rose gold date display ring, giving the Blast Moonstruck watch a rich three-dimensional feel.
richard mille RM UP-01 Ferrari
